How to add Google AdSense to your website
Like they have with pretty much everything else, Google also cornered the market on internet advertising. They are an advertising network that will place rotating ads that are targeted according to the information on your pages. Make sure you actually have a website with content before signing up with AdSense, because they will not accept you otherwise.
Adding Google AdSense to your website tutorial
1. Set up an account
In order to use Google AdSense, you will need to create an account. You can create an account by going to Google AdSense, clicking the Sign up now button and following the instructions for creating an account. Just so you know, it might take a while before they approve your account.
Quick Warning: Try to avoid using the back button in your browser, because when you do, you tend to lose any of your changes and need to start over. This happened to me more times than I’d like to admit!
2. Set up your ads
When you have been approved, you can now create your ads and configure them the way you would like. For help with this, please read Google AdSense step-by-step set up instructions. Google lets you customize the appearance of the advertisements and choose whether you want text advertisements, image ads or a mixture of both. Once you have finished configuring, you will copy and paste HTML into your site. This code can be found in the Your AdSense unit code box if you are still in the process of configuring your ad, or in the “Manage Ads” tab by clicking the “Code” link in the “Actions” section.
Another type of ad you can use is “AdSense for Search,” which gives you with a Google search box on your site. When people search through that box and click an advertisement, it will be as if the ad were on your page.
3. Insert the Google AdSense Code into your site
Now that you have copied the Google AdSense code, you need to insert it into your site. Those instructions will be different depending on the web editing program you are using. You basically just need to find the place you would like to show the ads (generally in one of your sidebars) and insert the code there. The Google Ads will probably be invisible on the page if you are using a WYSIWYG editor, so you will have to actually go to your site to see what it looks like.
Final pointers
1. DO NOT Click Your Own Ads
As tempting as it might be, DO NOT click your own Google ads. They consider that to be fraud and it is the quickest way to get kicked out of Google AdSense. They aren’t going to send you to jail, but it is cheating, and Google knows it. Since Google pays AdSense for the ads according to the number of clicks, they obviously do not want you clicking your own ads.
The same is true for anyone in your household. Google knows where you live, so they will consider any clicks from your household to be a click from you. If you or anyone else in your household is truly interested in one of your ads, you will have to search for it yourself.
2. No traffic, no money
The only way you will make any money from Google AdSense is if you get a lot of traffic. You sometimes will only make a few pennies for each click, and very few people click on ads to begin with. Therefore, it takes a lot of eyes on your site before you can make any real income.
