How can you use Google AdWords to increase your search engine ranking?
I guess the ultimate goal of any webmaster is to get their site on the first page of the Google search engine results. For lots of people, just getting your site on the first few pages or even to show up at all is a major accomplishment.
Possibly the easiest way to get to the first page of Google’s search results page is to buy advertisements (called Google Adwords) on your keywords. I know, this means you need to spend money. But it might be worth it.
One good thing about Google Adwords is that you can spend as much or as little as you want. Another positive is that you don’t just simply pay them to advertise your site. You can actually decide which keywords you would like to advertise. When you sign up through Google Adwords, they let you determine which and how many keywords you will use.
Their prices are different depending on which keywords you want to use for your advertising. So advertising for the keyword of “cars” will be more expensive than a keyword like “anchovies” or something really obscure.
Lots of people don’t like this option because it means spending money. I can’t blame them. If you have a personal site or consider your web site a hobby, it probably doesn’t make much sense.
However, if you are hoping to make some income from your site, you might want to consider this as a business cost, similar to the way many businesses place ads in newspapers. What it really comes down to is your return on investment (ROI). Let’s say you spend 50 cents per click on your advertisement, and every 100 clicks gets you one person who spends $100 on your site. That would give you a profit of $50 every hundred clicks, which is money you would not have made otherwise. Of course there is a chance that you get no clicks and waste your money or take a net loss with your advertising, but that is the risk you take with advertising. This is income that you would not otherwise have made had you not advertised. Of course, as in all things, it’s possible to go overboard and spend more than you earn. You might want to consider setting aside a budget for a month or two as an experiment, and adjust as you go along to see if this approach increases your profits.
Conclusion
Google is now, arguably, the most important search engine around. Knowing what you should not do and still survive Google, as well as learning shortcuts to getting an instantaneous good placement on Google’s search engine results page, is now a very important part of website promotion.
